The Bend Farm CSA
What is CSA?
It stands for Community Supported Agriculture. A CSA is basically a farm produce subscription. It shortens the ‘distance’ between you and your food and the farm it was produced on. CSA members pay at the beginning of the season for a ‘share’ of the seasons harvests. In return, each week, for twenty weeks, every share owner will be given a box of fresh, local, ‘certified naturally grown’ (CNGfarming.org) food that was produced on the farm. There will also be a newsletter in each box with what’s happening on the farm and some preparation ideas for that week’s produce.
Shares will contain produce, herbs, or any other farm products. We grow over one hundred varieties of vegetables to provide a wide selection for our members. We also provide a good value, members receive a 10-25% discount on our regular farmers’ market prices.
What comes in a share?
Shares will vary through the season. In the spring, shares will be heavy on greens. As the growing season progresses, you can expect to see more summer vegetables moving into the starchy vegetables as the season progresses. A healthy variety is always on offer. We grow many kinds of vegetables so you won’t get bored of the same old thing. Also,we will include a salad green such as spring mix or lettuce every week.
For example a spring share might look like this:
spinach, lettuce, radishes, kale, kohlrabi, snap peas, bunch of fresh herb, and green onions
arugula, mixed baby lettuces, rainbow chard, baby carrots, baby beets, napa cabbage, salad turnips, and bok choy
A summer Share might look like:
summer squash, red potatoes, broccoli, green peppers, green leaf lettuce, green beans, sweet onions
cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, red pepper, eggplant, fresh herb, cantaloupe, red leaf lettuce
A fall share might look like this:
onions, carrots, butternut squash, romaine lettuce, spinach, leeks, fennel, red onions
storage onions, storage carrots, gold potatoes, acorn squash, pie pumpkin, mixed baby lettuces
How it Works
In exchange for supplying you and your loved ones with the best available produce, we ask you to commit to the entire growing season, pay for the entire season either up front or in installments, and return your box to be re-filled each week.
If you go on vacation or for some reason can’t pick up your share please let us know asap. We can donate your share to a local food bank, or you can treat a friend or neighbor to your share.
Pick up locations will be at any farmers market we attend or other arrangements may be made available if necessary.
